Let me share with you a difference between Acids and Bases.

Aspect Acids Bases
Introduction Acid is a substance that donate protons (H⁺ ions) Base is a substances that accept protons (H⁺ ions)
pH range Less than 7 Greater than 7
Taste Sour Bitter
Touch Corrosive or irritating Slippery or soapy
Electrical conductivity Conduct electricity in solution Conduct electricity in solution
Reaction with indicators Turns blue litmus paper red Turns red litmus paper blue
Reaction with metals May react with certain metals to produce hydrogen gas Do not react with most metals
Ionization state Can be strong or weak acids Can be strong or weak bases
Effect on litmus paper Turns litmus paper red Turns litmus paper blue
Reaction with carbonates Produce carbon dioxide gas Do not react with carbonates
