How to Write a memo (Memorandum)?

Memos are written to communicate policies and procedures. This is internal communication within an organization. Through a memo, a message is conveyed to the audience. It can be about an action, event, or observance. We can also say it is a call to action or persuasion. This is written in a professional tone.

Purpose of a memo

Typically, a memo is written for the following reasons.

  3. Highlight a circumstance or event
  4. To keep a record of anything
  5. To pass instructions or information

How to write a memo

Below are the points you must follow while writing a memo:

  • Header

The header indicates the sender, recipients, date, and subject.

  • Introduction

It declares the main point of the memo.

  • Body paragraph

In this paragraph, you have to elaborate on your main topic in detail. Write short sentences so that the memo can be comprehensible for everyone. You can also use subheadings and write your points in bullets to make them prominent.

  • Conclusion

In this section, you will conclude your memo by summarizing your main point or topic.

  • Close

End up the memo by writing your name, phone number, and email address. So that if anyone needs help, he can contact you.

  • Attachments

You can also include any necessary attachment like an image, graph, or chart.

  • Proofread

Proofread the memo before sharing it.
