Let me share with you a comparison between Fragmentation and Budding.

Aspect     Fragmentation Budding
Introduction A form of asexual reproduction where an organism breaks into fragments, each of which can develop into a new organism. A form of asexual reproduction where a smaller outgrowth, or bud, develops on the parent organism and eventually detaches to form a new organism.
Common in ·        Plants  e.g. ferns

·        Starfish

·        Yeast

·        Hydra

·        Certain cacti

Formation of New Individuals New individuals are formed from separated parts or fragments of the parent organism. A new individual develops as an outgrowth on the parent organism and later detaches.
Parental involvement Parent organism is usually divided into multiple parts, with each part capable of growing into a new individual. Parent organism remains intact and produces one or more buds that eventually detach.
Reproduction timing Can occur throughout the year Typically occurs during specific seasons
Size of offspring Offspring are often smaller, as they start as smaller fragments or pieces of the parent organism. Offspring produced by budding may start smaller but grow to a size similar to the parent organism.
