As one becomes exposed to and uses a language, language acquisition advances spontaneously. When language acquisition is tied to children’s surroundings and immediate environment, it takes on greater significance.
Generally speaking, achieving a foundational ability for meaningful conversation is the goal of English language acquisition in the classroom. The use of English in class and outside the class should be encouraged and promoted. In this regard, teachers must be fair to every student and devoted to the students with disabilities and those who are underprivileged.
Errors and problems in speaking English should be seen as initiatives or progressive phases of language acquisition. The instructor or teacher’s key role is to assist students with pleasant alteration in a friendly environment and try to give students a feeling of relaxation by telling these stories and talking to them in English. The teacher should aim to develop interpersonal conversation competence in students. The majority of the students do not have the atmosphere and exposure to speak English outside the classroom or school. In this regard teacher’s proficiency in speaking English becomes all the more important.
Learning outcomes for primary classes are numerous but some of these are listed below.
Class 1 Learning Outcomes:
- Recognize letters and images and connect them.
- Identifies well-known items in the images and names them.
- Distinguishes between small and capital letters and their sound.
- Acting out poetry or rhymes.
- Answers verbally to understanding inquiries about tales or poetry.
- Re-narrate a story regarding its characters, and events and answer the questions.

- Describe your thoughts verbally and can answer the questions asked by the teacher or can ask questions by using English or your native language.
- Provide a brief image or written answer to a poem or short story.
- Understand English greetings, and polite expressions and answer back in a good manner.
- Employs straightforward adjectives and uses them accordingly.
- Hears and understands the teachers’ instructions.
- Includes nouns and prepositions in writings.
- Writes a small passage using appropriate words and space between the letters.
Class III Learning Outcomes:
- Read poetry aloud with a class or individually using proper tone and pronunciation.
- Uses acceptable expressions while acting in play or skit.
- Pronounces words correctly and pauses when reading aloud.
- Comprehends short texts in English by identifying the primary concept, supporting facts, and order, and coming to a conclusion in English.
- Verbally conveys personal opinion about the story and character in English or native language.
- Reacts suitably to telephone conversations and spoken communications.
- Capable of writing dictation of words, sentences, and phrases.
- Uses English verbally and in writing with proper use of nouns, pronouns, adjectives, and prepositions, more efficiently as compared to the previous class.
- Differentiate between past and present tenses, and opposites.
- Correct use of punctuation.
- Read written texts and able to write 5-10 lines on personal events.
Class IV & V Learning Outcomes:
- Answers the questions related to everyday events and lesson based asked in class.
- Shares English poetry, games, favorite stories, etc with friends and family.
- Follows directions provided in English while participating in any activity.
- Read and discuss stories, and incidents in poetry and write a comprehensive paragraph on it.
- Communicate with those who are in the immediate vicinity.
- Frames inquiries; describes and narrates situations using coherent, grammatically sound language.
- Accurate use of antonyms and synonyms.
Comprehends language finds details and understands the flow of events.
- Makes connections between concepts with others and personal experiences.
- Uses instructions for a variety of tasks and uses a dictionary for convenience.
- Differentiate between tenses, verbs, nouns, and other grammatical errors.
- Creates, writes, and English passages, biographies and autobiographies, letters, emails, and messages.
