Aspect Blood Lymph
Introduction ·        Blood is a medium that transport oxygen, nutrients and hormones throughout the body. ·        Lymph is a fluid that returns excessive tissue fluid to the bloodstream. ·        It also transports fats from the digestive system to the bloodstream.
Color ·        Red (when oxygenated) ·        Dark red or purple (when deoxygenated) ·        Clear or slightly yellowish
Composition ·        Plasma (water, electrolytes, proteins) ·        Red blood cells ·        White blood cells ·        Platelets ·        Lymphocytes ·        Fluid ·        Proteins ·        White blood cells
Origin Bone marrow (red and white blood cells) Derived from interstitial fluid that enters lymphatic vessels
System of circulation Circulates in a closed system of blood vessels (arteries, veins, capillaries) Flows in a one-way system through lymphatic vessels and nodes
Clotting factors Has clotting factors that allow for the formation of blood clots Lacks clotting factors
Cell Types ·        Red blood cells ·        White blood cells ·        Platelets ·        White blood cell
Transport of waste products Transports carbon dioxide, to be eliminated from the body Assists in removing cellular waste and excess fluid from tissues
