Let me share with you a comparison between Protoplasm and Cytoplasm.

Aspect        Protoplasm        Cytoplasm
Definition The living substance present within the cell that includes the cytoplasm and the cell nucleus. The semi-fluid, gel-like substance found within the cell membrane, except nucleus.
Composition ·        Cytoplasm

·        Nucleus

·        Other organelles

·        Cytosol (the liquid portion of the cytoplasm)

·        Various organelles

Location It is present throughout the cell, encompassing the entire cell It is contained within the cell’s boundaries, surrounded by the cell membrane
Nature Protoplasm is the living part of the cell. Cytoplasm includes both living and non- living components, such as water, ions, and various organelles.
Function Helps in growth and reproduction of cells also provide a suitable environment for a cell to develop. It acts as a medium for chemical reaction. All of the functions such as cell expansion, growth and replication are carried out in the cytoplasm of a cell.
